Progression

I like most personal trainers have my level 3 certificate. This allows me to work with clients and build them custom plans, give train & nutrition advice and fitness classes etc. Now most people are happy staying here as it is quite a lucrative job when you find the clients. But people can become stagnated and begin to regress in their abilities.

Personally, I do not want to fall into this category and have started to train for my exercise referral qualification and even become a level 4 qualified specialist. I don’t like the idea of being just good enough or doing things for the sake of doing things. So, I progress I learn more and become better and what I do.

Question is, what do you do with your training? Do you get to a certain level and think well I’m cool here I don’t need to work any harder or change my training? Then never learn new techniques or train at a harder level only to wonder why am I not making any progress or possibly even beginning to see regression in your ability.

When you go into a gym and look around and I mean really look around and study people you see this a lot. People just going through the motion, on their phone, lifting weight that are far too easy for what they want to achieve or moving at a pace far to slow for what they are aiming for. Some people want to just hit the trend of saying I go to the gym, others just simply don’t want to push any harder.

What I say to this is that’s fine if you are happy with where you are, but if you are looking to take the next step in your training, get bigger, stronger or faster then you need to learn new methods, train harder and progress your training. You cannot stand still and hope for improvements.

Take some time to sit down and really think about what it is you want to achieve. Seriously, 5 minutes get a pen and paper and write down what you want to achieve. This doesn’t have to be fitness based it can be anything. Once you’ve done that you need to make plans to get to your goal. What do you need to progress and get better at to achieve your target? How much more effort do you need to put in to achieve your target?

This are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself. But on the bright side, I am very good at fitness and coaching. So, if you have a fitness-based goal I am here to help. If you want help or guidance, then send me and email and let’s get to work.
