I coached Tom Daley Today

Yeah, a bit random, I went to look at a gym today in London and when I left, I noticed Tom Daley was in front of me. I paid no real attention because as much as he is a cool guy and quite inspirational I don’t really like bothering people. I started walking past him and I overheard him talking about rowing.

He was talking about something he is training for and sounds like he was making pretty good progress. He is defiantly on the right tracks and putting in the work to make things happen for him. He was querying something about his technique and timings. Normally I stay quiet and just ignore people I overhear but I thought well why not. My job is to coach and train people I’m sure I can help out an Olympian.

I politely interrupted his conversation (think he was talking with his diving coach) and introduced myself and said I am a rowing coach. His face made me laugh as I am pretty sure he thought I was interrupting to ask for a selfie or something. As expected, he was really nice to talk to and he seemed really appreciative about the feedback and advice I gave him (probably thought what is this guy on about)

Short one today but basically three takeaways from my message

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Felt weird reaching out but actually made a positive impact

Never underestimate what you have to offer. I have no idea who Tom is being coached by, probably someone with more experience than me. That doesn’t mean I couldn’t fill in some gaps and helped him.

I need to carry business cards around
